In a turn of fate 18 years ago, Adrian Falsetta left his old work place. It gave him the motivation to start his own business. It also allowed him a gratifying moment weeks later, when the manager called to offer Adrian his old job back and Adrian was able to say ‘No, sorry mate I have my own business now’.
The business name of JCF Painting Services is a sweet dedication to his children, Jessica and Charlette Falsetta. It hasn’t always been easy and there have been struggles, but Adrian has succeeded in forming a respectable and effective painting and decorative service. He has enjoyed the freedom and flexibility that you wouldn’t usually get working for an employer, and he is grateful to have a team of employees from different nationalities and backgrounds who all work well together.
How do you find being a boss and managing a team of employees?
I try to lead by example and lead from the front. I strive to have a harmonious and fun working environment but I still have some boundaries. I am the boss and the workers are the workers. It feels good coming to work every day. Everyone is happy doing what they are doing. A sub contractor commented ‘You’ve got to be grateful for the team you’ve got, nobody’s got a team like that. The way everyone works together so well’. I am grateful every day for the team I have. Look after them and they will look after you in return.
Where have been your most exciting projects?
The biggest home I have worked on a 80 square property at Dookie. Architecture designed homes are challenging but it is appealing and rewarding to do one of those. Everyone’s homes are rewarding because it’s their home, it’s where their money is invested, it’s everyone’s castle. I recently finished a house for Sessions Builders in Echuca. It belonged to a wealthy bloke and was a beautiful home, with no expense spared. There was even a climate controlled cellar for his home. Seeing something like that finished is great, there is a fine level of detail in thse homes.
What’s in your future?
I plan eventually to sell the business on while it is doing so well, preferably to an employee. I hope they can go in and slowly take it over. Then I can go down a new path. I am 45 at the moment and I would certainly like to have a different career path before I retire, such as the police force. I like new challenges. I am trying to put a package together worthy of somebody else taking it on.
How has your experience with JH & Co been?
Can’t speak highly enough of Joe (senior accountant) and Justin, especially through some of my down times. They have looked after me immensely. I mean it from the heart I can’t speak highly enough of them. When someone looks after you, you give them the respect back. That’s how I look at it.
What is your New Year resolution?
Importantly, it is to enjoy more family time.
I would also like to strive to make the business the best business in the region. I have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it. I want to make sure that in 2018 JCF Painting Services reaches the pinnacle of its capacity.
